Skyforce Look Forward to Draft Talent Pool

The Miami Heat's D-League affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce, are anticipating the 2009 D-League draft. They will have the 13th pick in the first round followed by the 20th, 45th, 52nd, 77th, 84th, 109th and 116th overall in the 128-player draft.

This is a prime opportunity for talented players to get a second chance at their basketball careers and prove themselves worthy of making it to the pro level - the NBA. The Skyforce have already cultivated highly skilled players that have gone on to succeed in basketball as professionals, whether it be players or coaches.

Just last month, former Sioux Falls guard, Corey Gaines coached the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury to a championship title. The success that has come from the Skyforce extends beyond the NBA and leaks into all levels of basketball.

Beyond that, the Skyforce have plenty of former players that were invited to join NBA teams for this year's training camp and preseason. For the Miami Heat in particular, Andre Bown is currently on their roster fighting for a spot on the team. Other notables include Alexis Ajinca (Charlotte Bobcats), Stephen Graham (Charlotte Bobcats), Amir Johnson (Toronto Raptors) and Chris Richard (Chicago Bulls).

We've already stated how the Skyforce are making their presence felt in the NBA, but now with the upcoming draft there will be another wave of athletes with a shot continuing this trend.
