November 16, 2009

After all was said and done Marlins Left Fielder, Chris Coghlan, was named National League Rookie of the Year. Coghlan edged out Philadelphia Phillies pitcher J.A. Happ by 11 points and 17 first place votes to 10.

Chris Coghlan led all rookies in Batting Average (.321), Hits (162), Doubles (31), Runs (84), At-Bats (504), On Base Percentage (.390) and Slugging Percentage (.460). He finished with 9 homeruns and 47 RBIs.

Coghlan's play in the second half of the season certainly propelled him to winning the honors. He batted .385 in August and .382 in September. He led the league with 113 hits in the second half. When polls came out on who might win N.L rookie of the year, Coghlan wasn't even mentioned.

Coghlan is the third Florida Marlin to win Rookie of the Year. Dontrelle Willis won the honor 2003 and Hanley ramirez won it in 2006.
