Oh Nicky Boy

With just minutes remaining before the end of the 4pm trading deadline, the Florida Marlins added a much needed bat to the batting order.

Marlins aquired First Baseman Nick Johnson from the Washington Nationals for pitching prospect Aaron Thompson.

The best part of this trade is that all of our dreams have now come true. We waited all season for this and can finally say it: Emilio Bonifacio is finally out of our line up!

Jorge Cantu will slide back over to third base where he played last year. Bonifacio won't be going going too far. He will be used as a utility player, where he can play infield and outfield.

Fredi Gonzalez has already mentioned that Nick Johnson will bat in front of All-Star Hanley Ramirez. With that said, Nick Johnson is one of the most patient hitters in the league. He has drawn 63 walks this year, 6th best in the National League.

The statistics speak for themselves.

Nick Johnson's 2009 Season Stats:

G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS
98 353 47 104 16 2 6 44 63 66 2 2 .295 .408 .402 .810

Now let's take a look at Bonifacio's stats:

G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS
96 405 59 100 11 5 1 22 27 86 19 7 .247 .293 .306 .599

Now that Johnson finally has someone behind him that can bring him in, his runs scored is going to sky rocket.

The Marlins are now poised to make a legit playoff run.

Welcome to the Marlins, Nick.
